This weeks WozOn by Jerry Rice

Evenin all and Woz on?

I’ll start by mentioning I had the chance to pop over to France to watch the Chiefs play in Toulouse at the weekend and as such I confess to missing the Crediton game which was a shame. I’ve just about recovered as it was a bit of a boozy weekend not sure why?...of course it was good fun as it always is watching rugby in France. We did a sweepstake on the result and whilst all of us are obviously Chiefs fans, not one in our group put Exeter down to win and whilst you might say we were right, hats off to the Chiefs boys, they gave ‘em a hell of a scare and it was edge of the seat stuff from start to finish. The French do love their rugby and were very appreciative of us going there as we found out in the several hostelries we visited afterwards with several free beers coming our way . We did have to dodge riots a bit but there was absolutely no trouble at the game or afterwards in any of the bars. 33 thousand there and we numbered a mere 500 (personally I thought it was less but heyho.).

Enough… so what went on back here? I was being updated regularly and with a halftime score of 12-31 I was able to drink (sorry I mean…) rest easy. Great to see we took our lesson well from the previous week and we got well and truly back on the horse. The final score was 19-67 which was also good out come as we eventually finished with only 13 fit players on the field. Great result and some of the videos of the tries looked impressive as well.

Now our twos playing Crediton’s 3rd team had a very difficult afternoon and frankly we got a bit of a spanking. We were very much a scratch side and we basically struggled in all the departments, we did get on the score board but less said the better about the final score line. Heyho… not really sure what the answer is as we seem to struggle to get numbers to enjoy social rugby on Saturdays.

So on to Sunday, our 7’s and 8’s played in the Bradfords cup but there was justifiable grumbling from parents and coaches as the pitches were too small and the food on offer during and after was very expensive but the youngsters loved the experience.
The 9,10,11and 12’s played local rivals Chard and mixed bag of results but rugby was played. The reports are on the face ache pages. The 13’s bumped into a strong Exmouth side and it was a hard day at the office result wise. The 14’s had a good game at Teignmouth.
Our unbeaten under 16’s got a bit of a reality check as they played Barnstaple at Allhallows. They are the strongest side at this age in County rugby. To be fair we were a few light but stuck at it and it was also a bit of a feisty game for sure. We went down by 7-52 and it’s another “get back on the horse” situation for their next outing.

Ok, this weekend… Listening to the rain outside I’m thinking these two storms coming in may play some part in proceeding at the weekend but as it stands, we have a tough game as we welcome Bideford to the fortress. We have James and Jonathan Willis and his clan from Blampayne Sawmills coming for lunch and I must say it’s always a pleasure to welcome them as they are very longstanding supporters of the Ton and it’s ethos. Kick off is at 3pm. Full trawler gear and sowesters maybe required for the massive .

Our 2nd team game is off as we are struggling which as mentioned above, is worrying.

Sunday the Under 7’s, 9’s 11’s and 13’s are away at Paignton. The 12’s are away at Devonport, the 14’s are at Cully playing Paignton and the 16’s have a week off.

One big notice it’s Carnival night on Saturday and our Junior section are doing the walking bit with our new banners etc. For those taking part it’s a 6.45 meet up at Ottery Moore lane. Lets hope it all goes ahead.

Ok that’s it.
