Evening all and er… what is on?
Have you noticed I’m staying away from any political rants? My Editor says it’s not healthy for you all. Mind… I know you all think the “Buffoon” is still a Buffoon… sneaked that in.
Anyway…. last weekend ! bit of a “black arm band” day for the Ton as our trip down to play Old Public Oaks was a bit of an eye opener. Unfortunately our traveling army of 30 supporters came away a bit shell shocked as we got a right old cuffing and I know we haven’t lost like that for several years so understand why we were all left reeling.
OPO’s were relegated last season and have defiantly dipped into the transfer market which is annoying but hey ho. My chum from the Press pool sent me a message afterwards and said the scorers of their tries (all bar one, were playing in the South West 1 league last season, which is 4 divisions above us.). I also note that both the sides that the alleged majority of players came from both got promoted last season and it strikes me as no coincidence that neither team has won a game yet! Humm….
And the score I hear you ask… 55-10! I will also add in there that of the three games they have played so far so far, our score has been the best. They have notched up scores of 64 and 75 in the two previous games.
Now, whingeing over… I don’t think we played as well as we could of but fair to say, even if we had, I think we would have struggled as we just could not get our hands on the ball and to add to or woes a pretty useful chunky number 10, bossed the game from an armchair ride all afternoon (rugby fans will know what I mean by that).
Now… what is also disappointing for us is the fact that only one team goes up from this league which really isn’t fair in anyone’s book especially if one team thumps everyone. We and other clubs in the league are lobbying to see if this can be changed.
I can also report we have now lost our cup status as OPO’s are now the new holders!!
My final note on this is… we have to get back on the horse for this weekend’s game and I will mention OPO’s have to come back to the “fortress” to play us on the last game of the season! Wonder if the boys will relish that! I would and lets hope they still have the cup then.
Ok.. no twos game last weekend so on to Sundays Juniors.. what is going on with the 16’s? They really did one in their league game against Tivvy thrashing them by 15-52 a big club and at their place as well… that 4 on the trot… pictures/match reports are on the face ache page. Our other teams did well with the 12’s in cruise control as normal and the 13’s coming back from behind to win 6-5.
Ok, lots of bits n bobs… firstly and annoyingly, as predicted by most of you, some of our lovely disaffected community minded “yuff” have managed to damage one of our nice new subs “dug out” shelters by jumping on them and damaging the plastic glass. I’m ringing the police as I write, how am I doing that you ask? Well… I’m on hold in a queue and I’m reassured by the repeat message that says, my call is important to them. Anyway… I haven’t had a crime number for over 2 months and not since they smashed up the top changing rooms again, so I’m looking forward to getting another one. What is wrong with these people.. another example of where petty crime just gets ignored and we just have except it and put up with it over and over again! Nothing happened to the guy who set fire to our container I might add. The Police said they’d get back to us but never have.
Some notices… we had the committee meeting this week and as usual “money to tight to mention” as always and it’s hard work just keeping our heads above water but hey ho some good news! Our Chair, Chris went to the town planning meeting on Tuesday to put forward our plans to build our youth changing rooms out the back of the club. There was unanimous support from the councillors present and great to see them supporting things being done for the youth of the town even though you could be forgiven for wondering why we do it given all the knock backs. Anyway it now goes to EDDC for a final decision and of course we then have to think about how we can pay for it! I must just ask you all if you could go on to the EDDC planning page and put a comment in there to support this project as it help if they know the community is behind it.. it’s easy to do and will help greatly. Thanks if you can.
Then… big thanks to Josh and two of his workers from Ultim8projects who gave us a days work and repaired some of our broken patio slabs… so big thanks to Josh, Danny and Lukas, greatly appreciated chaps.
Now was just wondering … we are putting out a plea to see if anyone can help or knows someone who can help reupholster the covers on the seat benches in the lounge? Let us know… thanks.
Big thanks to Jes who has revived our hoover which we all thought was dead. He’s also sorted out other bits n bobs in the club which is a great help and he even put a battery in the clock which has been stuck on 11.30 for about a year…..and as I say to our members “see it, solve it, sort it” What the club should do is always great info given but what really helps is many more of the SSS gang.
Ok this week… back on the horse for the Ones who visit Crediton at their place… Kick off is at 2.30pm. Their thirds are making the reverse trip back to play our twos and again the kick off is at 2.30.
Sunday …the 7’s and 8’s are playing in the Bradfords cup away at Woodbury Castle. Where on earth is that? the 9’s and 11’s are at home to Chard and the 10’s and 12’s are at their place. The 13’s are playing home v Exmouth the 14’s with Cully are playing Teignmouth away and the 16’s are home to National 2 outfit Barnstaple, this really is a big test for their unbeaten run.
Had enough? I have…
