Still seeking a first win of the season, Honiton seconds welcomed Topsham to Allhallows on Saturday.
Such is the appetite for the spectacle of 2s rugby, the crowd had swelled to a size big enough to tempt Jules to try his luck with his collection bucket on the top pitch.
The early stages were a tight affair and the deadlock wasn’t broken until Topsham kicked a penalty on 20 minutes to go ahead.
The visitors then sneaked over for a try before Honiton came roaring back with the forwards rumbling Charlie White over for a try.
This was followed by possibly the best try Allhallows has seen, echos of the barbarians in 1973 as the ball was swept from end to end and one side to the other through many pairs of hands before Charlie White took his Gareth Edward’s moment to dive over out wide.
Honiton had Harry Todd sent off for a big hit on a man 3 times his size and Topsham kicked a penalty to make the half time 10-11 to the visitors.
In the second half honiton playing down the slope used gravity to get on top in the scrum and stretched in front with tries from Rowland, Keep and Enticott.
Despite having scored 5 tries, honiton had missed all 5 conversions so when Topsham crossed for a try which they converted there were only 7 points in it.
As Honiton’s pack turned the screw and the visitors began to tire, Woolacott smashed his way over to make it 30-18.
Further tries from Keep and Tom White took the tom out of sight although Topsham did mange a consolation try late on to make the final score 40-23.
A great first win of the campaign and some champagne rugby thrown in as well and all eyes will be on the visit of Teignmouth to Allhallows in a festive treat next week.
