Having played Wadebridge Camels some four weeks ago and losing heavily Honiton 2s were keen to salvage some pride but the visitors are a very strong side who are obviously keen to travel distances to get games
As with the first, conditions were very wet and handling was tricky.
Honiton elected to started up the slope but with Wadebridge dominant in the forwards the Lacemen were under the cosh and they leaked three early tries but Honiton got back into the game and it was guest player for the day Jane Rice who scored for the Lacemen after good work from the backs. Sam Heathcote converted. Honiton continued the hard worked and again, after some good picks & goes from the pack the ball got to Jane who scored again and Honiton were back in the game at 12-19 down at the half way stage.
With the slope now in Honiton’s favour the Hosts started well and were rewarded with another 30 yard run in hatrick try from Jane . Heathcote converted to level the score at 19 all. Honiton then scored again this time it was a slick and some what flamboyant over the head pass from Jane that found Dan Garman in support and he dotted down to put Honiton in front for the first time. Unfortunately Wadebridge are a good young side and they upped the anti and exploited some of Honiton defensive weaknesses and unfortunatly finished well by running in three more tries which took the game away from the Lacemen. The final score was a disappointing 24-40 to the visitors but was a good entertaining game in which Honiton played their part.
Special mention went to the colts who slotted in well and veteran Louie Lane stood out in a hard working pack but it was Jane who was the stand out player and he was awarded the man of the match award.
