Honiton started well and with their first possession they moved the ball in the Tavistock half. Rhys Phillips scored the first try of the game after Ben Kidson was impeded by the Tavistock fullback. Converted by Johnny House 0-7 after a couple of minutes.
The home side responded with a quick response after a penalty saw them advance into the Honiton twenty two, they spun the ball out wide with a converted try of their own, 7-7.
Honiton were looking good with ball in hand and were unlucky not to get a reply immediately after conceding. However it didn’t take long for Ben Kidson to finish well near the posts, converted by Johnny House 7-14 after eleven minutes.
A fine individual break from Charlie Wright saw him score a try after beating most of the home defence with pace a strong hand off, it was converted by Johnny House, 7-21 after seventeen minutes.
Johnny House got his first try of the game under the posts after Phil Cooke darted through a gap to release him, converted by the try scorer 7-28 after twenty minutes.
Honiton spent the next five minutes defending their own try line and were conceding several penalties and a scrum five saw their right winger get his second try of the game which was converted giving the score 14-28 after thirty minutes.
It was the home team now conceding penalties and three phases later Ben Spence scored from close to the line, converted by Johnny House 14-35 after thirty six minutes.
With the first half winding down both teams exchanged penalties and Honiton looked to finish the half strong and held out Tavistock to give a halftime lead of twenty one points.
Honiton received the ball from the kick off were looking good with ball in hand. They should have had a fifty twenty two but it wasn’t given.
It wasn’t long though for the scoring to start again. Charlie Wright got his second under the posts after good interplay between Ben Spence and Johnny House, converted 14-42.
Honiton pressure was full on and only indiscipline was holding them back.
Johnny House put Dean Norman through a gap and he went in under the posts almost unopposed, converted 14-49.
Tavistock enjoyed some possession to give their defenders some welcome rest, this unfortunately saw the Honiton defence step up and they defended their gain line well to blunt the home attack.
Unfortunately they couldn’t hold out indefinitely and their fullback got over from close range, the conversion was missed 19-49.
Honiton hit fifty through skipper Johnny House who found a gap close to the posts after a solid scrum from the forwards, he converted his own try 19-56.
Ben Kidson added another try out wide after using his pace to beat the last defender, the conversion was missed 19-61 with seven minutes remaining.
Tavistock got a consolation try to give their defenders home crowd something to cheer for coming from another Honiton penalty, the try was converted 26-61.
