Honiton v South Molton
The weather was favourable for a change with blue skies and plenty sunshine down at the Allhallows.
Honiton were looking for revenge after getting on the wrong side of the scoreboard at the away fixture.
Honiton received the kick off and were playing up the slope in the first half. An early penalty saw the Ton have their first visit into the South Molton half. This was short lived though as a spilled ball saw the opposition break into the Honiton twenty two. A penalty conceded in the first scrum saw the home side under early pressure. This saw them concede the first try of the game when their right winger scored unopposed wide right off the scrum. The conversion attempt hit the post 0-5.
Honiton moved the ball back up field and Ben Spence levelled the score with a try of a quick tap penalty close to the line, converted by Johnny House 7-5.
A Short period of controlled possession saw the Ton advance up field, and after several phases Laird Crevald showed the skills of a back to score on the left, the conversion was missed 12-5.
Honiton were looking good with ball in hand and were able to maintain possession and regularly break the gain line, they won a penalty in front of the posts and Johnny House duly obliged 15-5.
A dropped ball from kick off saw another try from a South Molton scrum, this time a disguised run from the other winger saw him score next to the posts, converted 15-12.
Despite the close scoreline Honiton had more possession but mistakes were crucially preventing them from building a lead they deserved.
Play continued around the halfway line with Honiton attack being met with strong defence from the visitors.
Both teams spilled the ball in the tackle before James Goodman seized the loose ball, he broke down the blindside beating several defenders to score wide on the left, the conversion attempt fell short 20-12.
Halftime
Honiton kicked off the second half playing down the slope, an early penalty for offside. South Molton moved the ball in to the Honiton twenty two , strong defence though prevented them getting a score and the ball was cleared to halfway.
No progress on the scoreboard but Honiton were ahead on possession and territory.
Against the run of play South Molton broke down the right and scored in the corner, the conversion was missed giving a nervy score of 20-17.
The home supporters had their nerves settled when Matt Baily scored on the right, a fine line break from fullback James Coutts Tucker created the try. The conversion was missed giving a 25-17 lead and a bonus point secured.
The away side were not giving up and kept pressing the Honiton line, Ben Kidson intercepted running the length of the field to score by the posts, the try was converted giving a final score of 32-17.
