Match Report by Justin Nuttall

South Molton v Honiton
For once the weather was relatively pleasant in South Molton with only a few downpours during the match.
Honiton were under the cosh for the first few minutes with ill discipline pushing them deep into their twenty two. Fortunately for the Ton when the home team got over the try line the ball was dropped over the line.
The relief was short lived with missed tackle in midfield allowed the South Molton centre broke through to score under the posts for a converted try 7-0.
Again forced back deep into their twenty two the Honiton pack was coming under scrum pressure from the large home pack. They spun the ball down their backline for another try just left of the posts, converted 14-0 after 15 minutes.
A yellow card for Ollie Rice saw the Ton down to fourteen for ten minutes and were still stuck deep in their own half. A forward pass saw the South Molton pack won the scrum against the head and the numerical advantage saw a kick gathered wide left to score their third try of the game. 21-0
Honiton finally got some ball in the Soulth Molton half and after going through several phases Tom Irish forced his way over next to the posts, converted by Johnny House 21-7.
There was more to come from Honiton as they scored their second through Josh Rice under the posts for another converted try 21-14 as it looked to reduce the deficit.
Ben Spence left the field with a suspected shoulder injury to be replaced Will Lancaster.
An over thrown line out throw saw the South Molton scrum half break towards the Honiton try line, fortunately for the Ton he couldn’t gather his own kick and knocked on over the try line.
This resulted in a five metre scrum which Honiton defended well to force a handling error in the South Molton back line, Ollie Rice kicked the ball dead to end the first half with Honiton finishing the half significantly better than they started it.
Neither side could advance the score for the first ten minutes of the second half. South Molton were awarded several penalties and opted for scrums as their line out had been very hit and miss in the first half.
It was the home side who now started to concede some penalties and allowed Honiton a line out, the line out was duly won and Honiton pressured the home side try line, Alfie Lang got over from short range after some fine work from the forwards. With home crowd silent Johnny House added the extras to level the score 21-21.
With five minutes to go Ollie Rice was shown a second yellow for a deliberate knock on, South Molton went for the posts but the effort drifted wide. Honiton cleared but were still facing a South Molton line out in their twenty two, fortunately they spilled the ball. A penalty for a high tackle on Josh Rice further eased the pressure.
Honiton were holding on well despite playing with reduced numbers, unfortunately the killer blow came in the final minute with the home side second row running clear to score wide left, the try was unconverted but it didn’t matter as the final whistle was blown. Final score 26-21.
