South Molton v Honiton
The game was moved to the local community college due a frozen pitch with the away supporters getting a late notice diversion.
After a bright start Honiton were pegged back by some handling mistakes. This allowed South Molton to move the ball up field and after multiple phases their outside half dummied his way over, conversion missed 5-0.
Honiton weathered the home side storm and methodically moved the ball up field phase by phase. After recycling the ball well a neat pass from Finn Parrat put Josh Rice over to tie the game at 5-5 after twenty five minutes.
The scoreline parity was unfortunately short lived, the Molton ten again broke the line and the forwards did the rest for a converted try near the posts 12-5.
With halftime approaching James Coutts Tucker’s determined carry see him cross the whitewash after brushing off several defenders. Ben Phillips converted from wide right to level the scores at 12 apiece.
From the kick off Honiton cleared but were unfortunately penalised at the line out and
South Molton kicked a penalty 15-12.
Halftime
The second half started well for the Ton. Some great tackling saw the home team penalised for holding on. Ben Phillips added the penalty to level the game at 15 each.
With Honiton pinning down South Molton in their twenty two saw the pressure turn to points.
Dean Norman stole the ball from the Molton number eight and a few phases later Finn Parratt charged over, converted by Phillips 15-22 to the Ton.
Ben Phillips extended the lead to 15-25 with a penalty after Molton were penalised for holding on.
Following on from a fifty twenty two kick by Johnny House the line out was secured, Ben Phillips was stopped short of the line. Another slick pass from Finn saw Josh Rice get his second try under the posts, converted by Phillips 15-32.
Jack Madge was given a yellow card for a shove in the back reducing the Ton to fourteen men for the last ten minutes of the game.
They were reduced to thirteen when Ben Kidson was carded harshly for what was a legitimate hard tackle. More curious penalties followed from the man in the middle allowing the home team to get a consolation try under the posts, converted giving a final score of 22-32 to the Ton.
