WozOn by Jeremy Rice

Evening all…. And Woz on?

Well firstly big thanks to my chum Churchie for doing the “Woz on” last week which I will add was a much better read than my drivel. As he said I was indeed, away getting a short notice bargain price week in the sun which was nice. I’ve decided “all inclusive” packages are dangerous, especially if you like a drink or two and if you are a bargain hunter, you feel as if you’ve got to get your money’s worth by eating everything and drinking everything. The “long suffering” and I did some totting up one night whilst drinking our 5th cocktail of the evening and we came to the conclusion we don’t think they were going to make much money out of us!!

Next….I could mention my favourite mate… who is constantly proving me right with more buffoonery every day but I won’t and I just hope we don’t all suffer too much from the fall out of all that he and his cronies keep doing to mess up the world.

Ok, Whilst away I did venture out of our pool side cocoon to a rather loud, rough “sports bar” to watch a rugby game or two. I was obviously a tad annoyed about having to pay for my beer but that aside I saw some scary sights most of whom were very sunburnt and relaxed and despite also being Brits I must confess I struggled to understand some of them. I felt as if I came from a different planet but ignoring that, I saw some good rugby. The Jocks and the Paddys had a good encounter, the Welsh surprised a lot of people and just maybe, they are back on the horse now. I confess I had little hope for England given recent form but what a great game and I thought we’d done it but unbelievably we managed to throw it away in the last two minutes… Firstly from the receipt of the kick off which we secured, we unbelievably decided kicked the ball back to them! Relief though, we somehow managed to win it back again and all we had to do was just hang on to it for two “pick and goes” and then hoof it into the crowd but no! We coffed the ball up and gave away a penalty straight away! School boy errors at a crucial time. Dooh!…. Still it was a good game to watch with my new found chums but looking ahead and moving forward, I think we need a regime change and we need to get someone in who can make us exciting to watch again. We have some great players who seem stifled by how we play… I’d like the Bristol coach to take over….. just a thought.

So… what rugby did I miss at home? well, I did miss the midweek game which was a great success judging by all the feedback and there was a great report on the game which was entertaining to read and it’s definitely something we as a club need to consider moving forward as there was a large crowd watching our vets/seconds win… maybe before the end of the season we could get a few Junior games on in the evenings .

So…. what about the final catch up game for the ones which was due to be played on Saturday? I got a message from Churchie letting me know that Dartmouth were not coming and we’d been awarded the 5 points by default which believe it or not has now moved us up to second in the league. There not showing wasn’t entirely surprising I have to say, given they are well adrift at the bottom of the table anyway and our decision not to organise a lunch was well founded given the outcome. Only thing is… it was another week of no bar take which is definitely not good.

Sunday… again, no rugby but this was understandable as it was Mother’s day and by tradition we never play fixtures on this weekend which I like.

Moving on…. Guess what? my return to Blighty has coincided with the sun coming as well and I’ve not had to even look at the pitches and all training had gone ahead without any fuss.
So Saturday our Ones have a tricky trip down to Plymouth to Play OPM’s and it’s always a tough venue to play at, so no complacency please and it’s a job that needs doing, is my thoughts. At home our twos welcome Ilfracombe and we hope the game goes ahead as we could do with a bar take.

Sunday looks busy ….our 7’s are at a festival at Chard. The 8’s play the muff at home, the 9’s are at their gaff at Sidford. The 11B’s are also home v them and the 14’s are away but down on the Blackmore field….. there’s more…. Against Sarries we have the 10’s and also the 15’s at home and against Ivybridge the 11A’s are also at home. The 13’s are at home to South Molton and finally the 16’s are home to Torrington. I hope someone about to organise who’s on after who. Tis gonna be busy….

That’ll do

So #UTT

Jez
