WozOn? by Jeremy Rice

Woz on?

Well ….. still raining…. I did go out yesterday without getting wet though. Might seem strange to say that but I have because I was genuinely surprised!

News is just sad at the mo and you couldn’t make it up. You might have thought whilst you get on with your jobs there are people who are far more important and capable looking after our country . Well…. Wrong! It seems nearly all powerful people are just interested in lining their pockets by whatever means they can and all on the back of the commoners and… all done with very low morals as well.
Some of the stuff this week is just down right embarrassing. There’s a rugby song that starts “it’s the same the whole world over, it’s the poor that gets the blame…..” it gets rude after that but it’s so true. I might have mentioned this song before…. Anyway I reckon if we just got ordinary sensible people to represent us, they would make a far better job of getting things done. We have useless career politicians who come out substantially richer than when they started doing the job which in most cases they did badly and corruptly. I think we should say, you can only do the job for 5 years and then go back to your normal job…. That might work. Probably being naïve. Don’t get me on to the House of Lords!

Anyway…. no Saturday rugby last week as we joined the throng of teams that had their games called off . It’s really difficult at the mo and this rain is just relentless and depressing at the mo.
We did go ahead with our Ladies lunch which was a great success. 50 of them! The food was great so thanks to Ann and of course to Corrie and her bar crew who set it up and organised everything. Sarah Searle sung some songs and I must say she was very good indeed. If you want to hire her ask Corrie for her details. We then had a Comedian who was making his debut. I did mention to him that the audience was all ladies so could he tone it down a bit!! Well… I hate to think what it would have been like if he hadn’t! Anyway…. people were laughing and that’s our new moto down at Tonsville now adays, laugh! Big thanks to Andy for volunteering to do it, it would be my worst nightmare as I’m cr*p at telling jokes. Chris our Chair plied the ladies with lots of Prosecco curtesy of his company Brendon stoves and that always helps for a good afternoon and then… Stopper sung a few “rabble” rousers including one which was called “Alice! Who the bleep is Alice” which went down well, especially as we had an Alice in the crowd. It all went well and from the feedback it looks like we could do it again. I will say a big thanks to all of the Ladies who came as it kept the club open in what are difficult times at the mo.

Sunday one game was played! This was our Under 16’s and somehow up at Yeovil they seem to have bomb proof pitches as reports coming back say it was absolutely fine and it was also a great performance by our lads and we won narrowly by 5 points to 12. Well done boys.

Big thanks to Paz for fixing the back step . He’s our long suffering Linesman if you didn’t know but he is also one of our general “sort it out if it’s not working” bods.

Anyone wanting to go on Tour… see Finn if you do, they are going to Edinburgh for three days at the backend of May.

Tom Hattan is also trying to get a couple of vet games going. We have one booked in for the next week which if you are over 40 and fancy a run around give him a bell. Or look for Honiton vets on WhatsApp and ask to join.

Went out with a couple of old boys on Thursday for a fry up and a catch up. Warren drove and we picked up Roy Freemantle from his flat… he’s doing fine and was as witty as ever… he even paid for the grub which was nice. Was great to catch up and glad to see he’s coping really well.

Ok….. this weekend we have our rearranged game against Dartmouth and we are kicking off at 2pm so everyone can watch the international afterwards. I say that as if it’s going to go ahead…. he’s hoping! and I’m ignoring the fact it has rained all day today!! Most strange this year as one of the 6 nations games this week is on Thursday night at 8.10. The French play the Irish. Just seems odd but hey ho, everything seems odd at the mo.

There is no twos game.

Sunday and poor old James Vince! Every week he organises games only to be thwarted which has been the same since Christmas if you look back at it, it’s rained since then. Anyway…. What’s booked is… away, we have 7’s to 11’s at Bridport the 12’s are at the Dorchester County festival and the 15’s are away are away to Tivvy. At home we have the 14’s playing Wellington and the 16’s playing Old Public Oaks…

Let’s all hang in there everyone, it can’t keep raining or can it?!
