Evenin everyone…. Just got back from my second home and I can confirm tis raining. Corrie, Brad, Stops and I were just doing a bit of a prep for Stoppers 80th bash which is tomorrow night for those coming and it all kicks off at 7.30. There’s a couple of bands for the entertainment so maybe a bit of dancing if there room!…. Can’t believe he’s managed to get to 80, mind he seems to have been at the club forever even before me.
Anyway “woz on?”….. well… no senior rugby last weekend and everyone had a Saturday off. I did manage to watch some rugby on the telly and then got ready for the carnival. There was a blinkin good crowd and maybe I’m getting old but I thought it was good entertainment. Well done to our Junior section who entered the walking category and big thanks to the parents who rigged up the float etc and so I’m told we won 2nd place in the walking category. What a good advert for the club. Nice to see the Vice chair, Nick Guilbert and the Junior chair Stuart Perry walking hand in hand up the High St with the boys and girls . Anyway I thought the whole thing had a good atmosphere as far as I was concerned. Maybe a glass of wine or two had something to do with my jolly did position about it all.
Sunday… rugby day and our Junior chair reports that the pitches are holding up well despite all the rain. As we played Tivvy in several games there was a minutes silence to commemorate the tradgic death of a young lad called Angus who played for them. He was sadly knocked down whilst walking home one night …Such a sad story .
As for the rugby it was, as we say a tough day at the office for several of our teams as they bumped into some good opposition. On the positive note the 7’s did well but using Stuarts words, “it’s a bit like herding cats at this age.” Our 8’s fielded two teams and did well. Our 9’s seem to have a whole army of players and they also performed well. The 10’s did well against a good Tivvy side, and our 11’s put out two teams one at Tivvy and one over at Wellington and both came away well on top. Our 12’s were a bit light in numbers and bumped into one of the strongest teams they’ll meet this season. The thirteens were also in a tight contest and just lost. The 15’s had a day to forget as they bumped in to Exeter Athletic in the cup and lost by several tries to nil. The 16’s entertained Castle Cary and it was a very competitive game, we went down by 35-7 but the momentum in this age group is good and there was a very healthy crowd watching and Stuart informs me we had a robust bar take as well. Obviously form those adults watching!
Ok, not much news this week but I’m not sure if you’ve noticed the Chiefs have started well this campaign and it’s great to see some new exciting players preforming for them….. and on that note, here’s an offer for you…. Richard Marker from the Coombe Estate who are one of our main sponsors has very kindly donated 4 tickets for the Exeter Chiefs v Bristol Premiership Cup game at Sandy Park on Saturday November 22nd, they are prime seats, midway up in the West Grandstand and have a face value of approaching £250. We intend to offer these up for sale in a silent auction with the best bid by close of business on Thursday 13th of November being the winner. Any money raised from this sale will be donated to the Junior Section of the club. To make a bid, just email your bid to our Chairman on email address gouldchris1963@gmail.com, we will put a progress report on the bidding in Woz On and the best bid by close of business on Thursday 13th November will secure the tickets.
So Saturday … Chris is doing a sponsors lunch for himself… well, it’s for Brendon Hill Stoves which his families business but I think the truth be known he has some mates coming down and he’s entertaining them all weekend. I think he’s taking them skittling in the evening as well and Rob Summers is organising that for him. Sounds messy. Now one problem…. our Ones were supposed to playing our next round of the Devon cup but the opposition have given us a walk over which isn’t good and I’m thinking, the powers that be will have to look at this competition as clearly it’s not working . Still… all is not lost, there’s a second team game at home and I think were trying to get an early kick off so we can all watch England play the Aussies at 3.10. Watch this space on that one.
Sunday …. More rugby …. There is a triangular match at Taunton between host Taunton Chard and us, that’s for the 7,8,9’s and 10’s. The 11’s and 12’s are also in a tournament at Taunton School. There is only one game at home which is the under 14’s who play Taunton.
That’s it for now… sorry in a rush as I want to watch Traitors…
