Evenin all and as usual…Woz on?
Well…not a lot, playing wise… it was Easter so no games for our juniors and as for the Senior it’s all a bit odd. We finished our league campaign three weeks back and then got a bye in the cup so our next proper game is now on the 3rd may not actually sure if its home or away yet but we should know that by Sunday, knowing our luck it will be away which means it will be a long trip down Cornwall. In this cup which has been going for two years we’ve not been at home yet. There is however a club game down at Sarries on Saturday afternoon I’m not sure of the exact details as they are being finalised as I scribe but probably at 3pm ko if you fancy going down to watch again the face ache page is the upto date info forum.
There are also games for our juniors and most of the sides will be away at their respective age grade festivals so I’m sure we’ll hear about how they did next week. Having said that, our under fourteens are not festivaling and they play a touring side from Dursley at the Ton. The kick off is at 11.30 so there is some rugger at home this weekend if you want to go down.
Ok, moving on…. its back to the aftermath of this senseless fire. Our Chairman Chris Gould is pulling his hair out trying to deal with the insurance bods and trying to work out what actually went up in the container. I’ve also spent several hours trying to get some response from the council re their fence which was also completely destroyed. We can’t touch anything yet as we might have a loss adjuster out to inspect the damage (not sure why as we sent the video in). The real issue is trying to organise the clearing up etc which is not easy and will be costly. The container is now not usable. We put the thing back behind the club many years ago and since then the trees have grown and what with the kit sheds now situated in front of it, the question is how do we dispose of it! Someone suggested a Crane! have you seen how much they cost!! Anyway it’s a real b*ll ache all round.
I’m still waiting to hear from the Police as well as they promised me a call this week to continue the discussion on what we what to happen from this! …. as usual that’s not happened yet and I won’t hold my breath on anything coming from that but I think an actual meeting with the perpetrators and maybe we can get them to help with the clean-up. As I said last week we are the victims in all this and it’s us who is getting all the hassle and cost!
Now, some good news, we are trying this ‘er crowd funding thing. Jules Hoyles has set up the details and it’s on the face ache page and details are also on our website as well. I know it seems a bit like begging for dosh but a shilling or two from a few soon adds up and won’t go a miss whilst we try to work out how to solve this clear up operation. Also on this note, … our very own Ollie Dixon was desperate to help and he’s been ringing me daily to suggest his fund raising ideas….anyway… he went down to watch the Chiefs game on the bus that goes from Honiton on Saturday and off his own back, he asked everyone for a whip round and on his return, he came straight down to my place with a hand full of dosh… £52 to be precise which was what the lads and lasses on the bus had given him. If you were one of them, thanks a lot, every little helps and a big had to Ollie for organising this… nearly bought a tear to my eye.
Hey ho…. We shall overcome I’m sure, we’ve been here since 1883 so let’s try and treat it as just a speed bump in the road ahead.
Don’t forget it’s the Seniors dinner and Dance and presentation on the 16th May. If you want to go you need to Contact Jonny or Finn. There’s a live band as well.
That’s it for this week…and #UTT
