Withycombe V Honiton

The 12's only gone and done it and handed Withycombe their first loss for an age.
We like playing Withy; We've never beaten them prior today and they're a good marker of where we aspire our team to get to, being good in all departments.
Our rucking and aggression dictated the game today, the tone was set early when we pushed through their ruck from the opening kick and we kept hold of it until Leo went over for the first try.
The forwards mauled Withy's, making them work hard at every breakdown. Just to add to their woes, we were stealing the ball at the scrums from Withy put-ins too.
Withy being on the back foot a lot, they would go for a kick and more often than not our full backs were ready to collect (our whippets like being given some space to attack from). Our backs did a good job moving the ball and they were keen to have a go running it forward which kept Withy guessing as to what was coming next.
Our boys did have a mini melt down in the third quarter which saw Withy build some momentum and the game tied for tries, but our boys wanted it more and ran away with it in the last quarter.
Try scorers today were Leo, Oscar, Will, Tom P and Luca.
Coaches awards today went to Leo & Luca for overall work ethic, and to Tom P for being a right bloomin nuisance.
I can't give these boys enough credit today, it was a great battle and our performance of the season. The boys have come on a lot and we knew we were in with a chance today. Just a shame the parents were glued to the action and our team camera lady away on dance show duties, we all forgot to take photos!
Back to it Tuesday, minimal rest, as our boys face Barnstaple in two weeks who haven't lost all season, they'll be expecting an easy game, just like Withy did.....But we shall see....
